Why create a website?
Would you like to create a custom website for your project? You can create one for free and have an easy-to-remember address for it (projects.kaboom.org/yourplayspaceproject).
Are you thinking "That's going to take a lot of time. Why should I bother?"
There are lots of things you use a website like this for. You can use it for keeping in touch with committee members and volunteers initially. The forums are fantastic for that because people can read and post questions whenever they have time. These forums are unique to your project and don't get shared with other projects or the main KaBOOM! forums. Put pictures of the space you want to build on or pictures of equipment you want to put on it. Tell your story on the home page... in your own words.
As your project moves into different phases, change the website. Start talking about fundraising. Start using the site as a way to communicate with media and volunteers. Post pictures of Design Days. Keep your website simple and straightforward and keep it changing. That'll keep people coming back.
It is a lot of work, but the payoff is pretty impressive, too. It's an awfully efficient and inexpensive way to communicate with a lot of people over a period of time.
There is a fairly extensive Getting Started guide (in PDF format) here. It's worth downloading and taking a look at before you dive in too far.
Are you excited? Are you ready to go? Do you have a few pictures and some thoughts about what you want to say about your project?
Then let's register your project!
