Here at KaBOOM! we have a saying, “It starts with a playground!” And that is exactly how Eileen Spitalny and David Kravetz began their relationship that turned into a multi-million dollar business venture.
Eileen and David have been friends since they met on the kindergarten playground at Madison Heights Elementary School in Phoenix, AZ. Friends throughout grade school and high school, David and Eileen decided at an early age that they wanted to be entrepreneurs and spread their love of chocolate and brownies around the world.

Eileen says of her playground memories, “It was on the playground that I learned the core values of team work, creative thinking and having fun, all of which I brought into my professional world!”

Founded in 1992, Fairytale Brownies started in a friend's catering kitchen using a 50-year-old secret recipe handed down by David’s mom. They started by selling brownies to friends and neighbors in their community soon after it became a national phenomenon.

With a growing and successful business in hand, Eileen and David desired to give to communities the same playful environment they had as children. They found KaBOOM! and participated in a playspace build. They experienced first-hand how creating space and time for children to play is vital to a healthy community.

As Eileen sees it, “businesses have an obligation to invest in the next generation by supporting and promoting the importance of play in their community and other communities. By doing this, a business advocates for their future employees, managers and CEOs”.

Eileen and her team are Playmakers because of their passionate support of KaBOOM! and its effort to ensure that every child in communities across the country has a great place to play within walking distance.
